Three Little Great Ladies by
W. Percy Smith, Revised by Sandi Queen. Illustrated by Douglas Farnham
This is the charming and convicting story of three sisters - Margaret, Sylvia, and Elizabeth - who, after the death
of their parents, are brought up in an orphanage for several years.
After a well-to-do relative dies, the sisters inherit the estate of Bullingham House, along with its acres of land
and surrounding village. Needless to say, life is turned around in the world’s eyes for these little ladies, as
they are all of a sudden endowed with riches beyond their imaginations, and every material want is fulfilled.
After a year of indulgence, however, young Elizabeth brings up in conversation with her older sisters the fact
that “something is missing” in thier lives. A visit to the village parson follows, and the young sisters decide
that they need to deny themselves and give to others.
.........Finding it hard
to deny themselves when they so enjoy their newfound work among the poor, they continue to grapple with what the
Bible means when it says to deny ourselves, until the Lord brings the revelation that denying one’s self is not
always what we think it is. Seeing a need for service that they originally did not even notice, the girls finally
find true meaning in self-denial and Christian service - and thus become three little great ladies at long last.

Christie's Next Things
Christie Gilbert is a young lady on the verge of womanhood,
seeking for the Lord’s will for her life. Upon her high school
graduation, she visits with Aunt Patience to talk over her plans
for her future - plans for grandiosity, adventure, and excitement.
But, after a heartfelt talk with the old lady, Christie’s heart is
burdened instead to be used of the Lord to follow the words of
an old Saxon proverb Aunt Patience shares with her, to “do ye
the nexte thynge.” Christie begins to prayerfully consider the people and situations the Lord puts in her path,
looking carefully for the next thing the Lord would have her do to be a help or a blessing in some way in the life
of someone, and learns at long last the contentment that comes by living a life fully consecrated to the Lord,
by following His will in everyday things - whether they are adventurous and exciting, or simply commonplace and
mundane.
The change in her life and the lives of those around her will bless and encourage the reader to seek their own
“nexte thynges” to do to bless others in their own life.
