Nature Books and Journals

My Nature Journal

by Adrienne Olmstead

One of our all-time best sellers! We found this WONDERFUL book at a gift shop in a national forest several years ago. I simply HAD to buy it, even though I had only gone in for a bumper sticker (if you’ve ever “been there”, you know what I mean!) After reading it, we knew we had to carry it! If the idea of creating your own nature journal from scratch terrifies you, if you just need a “starting place”, or a little shove to begin, this book will help. A beautiful, laminated hardcover book with inside spiral binding that lies flat upon opening - allowing the user to write in it - & its water-resistant, so the dew on the morning grass won’t hurt it. Our children have had delightful times with their copies of this treasure, & have been prompted to begin their own blank nature journals upon completion, once they’ve had a taste of what nature journaling can include. Includes different sections, such as “woodlands”, “pond & stream”, “meadows”, “twilight sky”, “seashore”, etc. & lots of great ideas to fill in & sketch for each section. This is a book we use for years, as we visit different places, to encourage our children to observe & record what they see. Has lots of “what to look for” type pages, & much information about what you are observing.
Consumable. $17.95

  Oakie of the Oak Tree

This is the story of Oakie, a little acorn, who is clinging to his mother for nourishment and support. All the time, he is entertaining the vision of his future as a giant oak. Then, fears and doubts set in when he becomes aware of the chatter of the creatures around him.

Mother Oak is very wise and, through relating her own experiences, she leads Oakie to know his maker and to put his trust in Him. She teaches Oakie to listen for that still, small voice that will guide him.

As you follow Oakie through his adventures and turmoil, perhaps you will see yourself or a loved one and can relate. Hopefully, someday, you can join me in saying of your child, "I'm very proud of this, my little acord, who has fallen into the fertile soil, and is firmly rooted on his/her Rock."
