Mary's Meadow by Juliana Horatia Gatty Ewing

We are pleased to bring this book written by the daughter
of Margaret Gatty, originally published in London in 1923, back in print as part of our "A Living Book About Nature" series! The best-selling children's author in England during her time, Juliana Ewing's tale of a group of
siblings who find an old book and aspire to bring it to life will bring out the gardening instinct in your children. After happening upon an old book written by "the Queen's own herbarist", Mary and her siblings are inspired to make their own "Earthly Paradise" like the one they read about. Each child takes a special part in making their property into a beautiful garden - from Harry, the "root-gatherer", who learns about and proceeds to propagate
plants, to Mary, the "traveller's joy", who chooses the job of planting and propagating plants in the unexpected places to surprise those travelling by the wayside, you'll learn, through this delightful story, the benefits of
composting, transplanting, dividing plants, mulching, and so much more - and be compelled to create your own "Earthly Paradise", like the children in the story!

The Story Book of Science by Jean Henri Fabre
This sweet book was first published in 1918, and has as much charm today as it did when it was originally published! Join Emile, Jules, and Claire as Uncle Paul introduces them to the world of science in the most gentle manner possible - through storytelling. Uncle Paul is a learned Christian man who is not afraid of hard work, but always has time to tell the children a story. His insatiable curiosity for God’s natural world makes the lessons informative and his passion for his subject makes them interesting. A wonderful, true living book about nature and science from a Christian perspective that all ages will enjoy, we are LOVING this dear compilation of science stories that honor our God while teaching about His creation. A few minutes per day that is well-spent.

Parables From Nature by Mrs. Gatty
Originally published over a hundred years ago, these timeless nature stories remind me of Aesop's fables, except that they are Christian in nature. While all ages will delight in reading these insightful stories, for copywork lessons, I would recommend them for junior high and older, due to their length. Each story is an average of 3-4 pages long, and is a lesson in character study from nature - faith, belief, restraint, blessing, etc. Assign one of these to your older student each week for a copywork lesson. You won't be sorry! The lessons they will learn will be more than just beneficial, and the imaginative use of text and punctuation will be an excellent lesson! Spiral bound, 189 pages.
