Bringing the World to Life Series by Michelle Zoppa
What better way to really “dig in” to world geography than by having your child draw maps, do research, write,
compare differences and similarities, create simple projects, such as collages, define vocabulary words that give
more meaning to
the region being studied, and read biographies of missionaries who worked in the area he is learning about?
Our “Bringing the World to Life” series, for elementary through high school students, does just that. In addition
to studying the unique geographical features and climate that make each area special, your student will research
the local vegetation, crops, imports and exports, natural resources, animals, and more. In his study of the people
groups living in the chosen region, your student will learn about their daily living, housing, native foods, religions,
languages spoken, common jobs, current events, and much more through his research, thus making the knowledge obtained
his very own, as he creates a unique volume focusing on this geographical area of God’s world.
Due to the "scrapbook format" of this series, these books are consumable. Be sure you order one for each
of your students.

Charlotte Mason's Elementary Geography
The search for just the “right” geography book - one that will tell your children wonderful truths about the world
God made in an easy-to-read, conversational style that would bring the far-away places and knowledge of geographical
truths to life for them - is ended. The end is the book you now hold in your hands.
Written by Charlotte Mason herself years ago, this is a geography book that will stir your child’s love of learning,
gently explaining geographical terminology's through Miss Mason’s unassuming, conversational style of teaching
about the world God created in all its varied glory. Originally written for English children, our first inclination
was to rewrite sections of the book to make it more geared towards American children, to whom this book would now
be marketed. But our gut feeling was to leave it as it was originally written - from the point of view of the dear
English educator who had won my heart with her methods so long ago.
We did decide to revise portions of the book to make the wording more “Americanized,” since a bit of the original
wording would be challenging for an American child or parent to read fluidly; though we decided to keep the charming
original illustrations. A new, bright cover wrapped the finished book, and our treasure was soon complete.
We hope you enjoy getting to know about God’s wonderful world through the eyes of Charlotte Mason herself; and
we’re honored to be a part of bringing it to your hands. Paperback.

Material World |
If you could buy only one geograpy resource this year, aside from a globe or map,
make it this book! This HUGE (255 full-color photographed pages), oversized coffee-table type book is subtitled
"A Global Family Portrait". Finally available in affordable flexicover, I gladly forked over the big
bucks when it was available only in hardcover - it's that good.
Picture this: Full color photographs of families from all over the world, standing outside of their homes, with
everything they own in the world stacked up around them. That's what this book is. You can view families from half
a world away who have 12 people living in a one-room hut, who own between them nothing more than a bag of rice,
2 chickens, a bowl, a pot, a blanket, and the clothes on their back. Turn a few pages and see an American family
in all their stark contrast, as their belongings for their family of 5 don't even fit in the 2-page photo spread
and have to be listed separately as "additional items owned".
What an eye-opener this book was! Divided into sections such as "Islands", "Middle East", etc.,
this book makes it easy to look up a specific country or area that you are studying, and see how the people live
there, from the viewpoint of one average family. It also tells you a biography on each family, what they do each
day, how they live, etc.
This is one of our favorite books, because it really "brings the world home to you". A must-have book,
it always makes a popular gift book. |

Women in the Material World
This huge, coffee-table style paperback, like its
predecessor, "Material World: A Global Family Portrait", is chock-full of beautiful color photo spreads
of women from all over the world. The book shows in graphic, stark comparison, what daily life is like for women
all over the world, by showing how they do laundry (yes, there are pictures of women doing laundry in the local
creek
beside pictures of women doing laundry in their state-of-the-art washing machines), make meals, clean house, and
more. A wonderful, realistic comparison between life in many different countries of the world, including America.
Like its predecessor, we ask that Mom
or Dad go through the book before handing it to the children, with a black permanent marker in hand, to "embellish"
certain "tribal" pictures (just a few, but nonetheless something you will likely want to "cover"
before handing to your children). A beautiful book
that tops the Christmas gift list for many.
